I went to anime Boston this year.

So this was in the 2010s, is when I finally was like, okay.

Soul Eater was referenced constantly at Anime Boston in the early 2010s.

We've seen it rarely, but I remember where this came up specifically was...

Way back when we were still like going to Anime Boston and we were doing a lot of panels every year, we were setting up in a panel room and there were some staff who were like setting up the tables for us because they were like reconfiguring the room.

And they were like senior staff of Anime Boston, no names obviously.

And this was right when it had been announced that PAX East was going to launch and be in that same convention center the next year.

And I remember those staff were talking amongst themselves and also talking at us about how evil PAX is and how the staff are all like conspiratorial and trying to destroy anime.

And I hope my whole life was just being like, hey, guys, can we all put our bullshit aside and just enjoy us? The show is so great.

Why is anything bad happening? Would we have Azumanga Dio that we could for right now? And I, you know, and I think just like can like growing up and the project kind of crystallized after after i lost my dad and i remember how the last time i felt that that i felt pure um uncompromised joy was at anime boston and kineticon and thinking about how over time that kind of slipped away and that felt like a very human emotion and also i think most importantly like You know, this Tukawai for Comfort is at its whole a story about autism and neurodivergence that has fucking nothing to do with anime whatsoever.

if only because he's a massive pain in the ass the whole time and he's very uncompromising in doing so and it doesn't really sugarcoat that and I'm like you know what there's actually a lot I felt like there was a lot of truth in that in a weird way um I think that, like, you know, I guess if you want to be really real, my first con I went to in, like, 2003 or 2004 or something like that.

So that's when I started going.

That was over when Anime Boston literally got started.
