Anime and manga fandom

Yeah, okay, cool.

That's awesome." You know? But then, like, they asked me, like, "What's anime fandom like where you live?" And I said, "Well, um, I, ours are a lot, uh, not to brag, but, like, our conventions are a little bigger." They're like, "How big does it get?" And I said, like, "Well, w- we're, like, about maybe, uh, our biggest one on the w- uh, in California is probably 100,000 people." And they're like, "What?" They're like, "What part of the West Coast are you from?" And then I was like, "California."

And he was like, they were like, "Oh, you must have an anime convention going on, like, every day." [laughs]

I mean, I talked to a lot of people on YouTube.

I gave a presentation to a couple teams about anime fandom and stuff.

Kind of trying to give context for like...

How anime fans behave, how they engage differently with their fandom than other people.

Because anime fans are just going to be more engaged on social media, but they do everything more.

They write more fan fiction pound for pound.

I mean, this is why anime fandom looks outsized on the Internet is because people are so deeply invested in anime.

And one of the stats that they really liked is that, and this has kind of been true for more than 10 years, if someone plays video games for 20 hours a week and watches anime for two hours a week, they will identify as an anime fan and they will probably not identify as a gamer.
