Animal cognition

And I want to share with you now what that really means.

Animal intelligence.

Andy intelligence was right

there.

And I've got for only $50, you can buy a hat with horse and heart, which is a nonprofit here that does animal rescue and animal intelligence training.

And now you too can be an AI expert, but you don't have to do any coding to do that.

Listen, this is more exciting than Thumper.

I don't know.

Lori spent her entire career deepening our understanding of brain evolution and cognition in dolphins, whales, primates, and other animals.

Her professional academic experience as a former faculty member at Emory University, and current adjunct professor at New York University, complements her prolific authorship of more than 150 scientific publications on animal intelligence, brain size and evolution, self-awareness, and the impacts of captivity on wild species.

And I don't know how you have time for anything else, having done-

[laughs] I don't either

Yeah.

Um, next question is, how has scientific understanding or how has the s- the scientific understanding of cetacean cognition changed over the course of your career? Like, what new things have we learned? What new understandings do we have?

Well, uh, in, in the realm of understanding other animals, animal intelligence, animal awareness, and their behavior, there has been an incredible change.

Uh, when I was in graduate school, you couldn't talk about something like animal culture.

So for him, sitting is the new smoking, and nature is part of the cure.

What I love is how the conversation expands into animal intelligence.

He talks about orcas, elephants, dogs, even Greenland sharks as evidence of emotional life across species.

Right.
