Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging

This ep, we are chatting all things Not So Fresh, which is about to make its debut at the Melbourne Fringe.

Created by Belle Hanson and Sarah Bowers in collaboration with Frenzy Theatre Co, Not So Fresh is an Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging inspired musical packed with iconic hits of the 2010s.

Joining us on the podcast today is Luisa Scrofani, who stars as Georgia-ish.

Louisa's credits include As You Like It with Melbourne Shakespeare Company and playing Dee in The Grinning Man, and Sarah Bowers, who is a WAAPA graduate and no stranger to Melbourne Fringe.

Mm.

Yeah, yeah.

So you've put two of the most iconic things together, So Fresh and Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, which I'm gonna call Jack out here.

[laughs] He has never-

And what a movie it is.

I didn't think that in 2006 I would be watching a film that feels like it could fit right into the iconic 2008 canon of those British coming-of-age films like Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, St. Trinian's, Wild Child.

But honestly, with every confidence and all the love in my heart for those films, Extra Geography really is our modern answer to a genre that has been sorely lacking in the film calendar.

Not only is it a wonderful story told by, for, and about women, it's a confrontingly honest, no-holds-barred anatomy of what it is to be a teenage girl, and all the hilarities and emotions that ensue, often in the same breath.

I, obviously at Picturehouse, we care a lot about films and cinema, so I have a couple of more cinema-related questions for you.

Mm-hmm.

When I came out of this film, I said to the person that I was watching it with, my colleague, that this feels like it is going to be the Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging-

[laughs]

And a big moment in her concert is her holding the burnt book on stage and reenacting Mean Girls.

And in the same way, we had Angus Thong's Imperfect Snogging, which was such a huge cultural moment, speaking about quotable things and things that have longevity.

And having that moment where you pass something down to your younger sister.

I went to go and watch Angus Thong's Imperfect Snogging with my older sister and that was such a moment in our like in our relationship together as like you know two girls experiencing teen womanhood and then a artist as well in London I think her name is Maisie Peters oh

I love her just did a

whole yeah she did a whole is it her before I'm like Maisie Peters and you're like oh my god I love her and you're like that's not her I think she did a whole Yeah, she did.

Yeah.

Um, someone says, "I would love to hear more about what you guys think of Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging."

Just in general?

Yeah.

Mm-hmm.

Like, and all the feelings that you feel.

So that's how I feel about Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.

I agree.

Famously.

And Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.

Perfect Snogging.

Okay.
