AngularJS

I, I, I honestly, I, I remember when I learned the value of don't repeat yourself- Uh, and I, I have a much more nuanced, uh, take on this now.

Um, but, uh, back in the day, um, I remember coming into a code base and I, uh, there was a-- uh, I was the only software engineer, like the previous engineer who built the An- it was AngularJS, who built the, uh, previous Angular project.

Uh, he was gone.

And so I got a, a bug report, and so I went and fixed it, and then they reported it again, and I said, "I literally just shipped that, like, it shouldn't be happening." Um, and they said, "Well, it's happening over here." And like, "Oh my gosh, I didn't realize it was there too." And so then I looked, and it was like three other places [chuckles] that I had to go and fix the same bug.

And, um, sort of the first or second round of, uh, like application frameworks in JavaScript were coming, uh, were just coming along.

It was, AngularJS was big.

Vue, no, not Vue, that wasn't there yet.

It w- uh, Ember was there, and then React, the first version of React was released a few years later, or around that time.

I, I had to pick a framework.

I picked, um, uh...

Well, I actually, initially I didn't, I also didn't pick AngularJS.

I picked something called Knockout.js by people, some people at, uh, Microsoft, uh, Steve Sanderson, a few other people.

You can move.

So best example I can give would be AngularJS, for example.

So Google was supporting AngularJS.

And they were done, right? And they said, you can move to modern Angular or you can move to React, but you're not getting any more support.

And the reason why I give that reference is that's where Herodev started, right? So in 2018, Aaron Frost, our founder and CEO, right? He had deep ties through ng-conf with Google.

And originally, Herodev was helping people migrate.

It was meant to deal with how do you go from AngularJS to Angular to React? Well, a few customers back in 2018 said, what if I just, can I just stay on this while I figure it out? Can I get some time? And can you make sure I can pass my PCI audit? Can you make sure I'm compliant with FedRAMP or HIPAA? Or how does that work? And so that's where our subscription came from.

And Google said, you know what? We'd love for you to do this because we don't want to continue to take on AngularJS.
