5:22
So with the content creation, right? Like once you did start, did you come out and you were just great at it right away? Oh, God, no.
5:35
Not at all.
5:36
Okay, the way I started with video was because I knew I had to do it, but I was just terrible at it.
5:45
I had a coach that said to me, can you send me a testimonial? And I said, yeah, sure, I'll send you something tonight.
5:51
I'll write it tonight, and I'll send it to you.
5:53
And he goes, no, no, no, no, no, no, on video.
5:56
And I'm like, no, no, no, no, no.

14 MINS LATER

19:59
Yeah.
3:10
Who was Ange, and, uh, what was happening in your world?
3:14
Yeah.
3:14
It's quite far back now, [laughs] so it could be a long story.
3:17
I came to Singapore in, like, over 30 years ago now, 33 years ago, and I came to teach English, and the idea was just to stay for 18 months and then go back to the UK.
3:30
But I loved it so much when I got here, I renewed my contract, and then ended up meeting my husband, having my kids, and everything went from there.
3:38
So I did basically around 10 years of teaching English.
3:43
When I had my kids, I just felt I need to be at home with them, but I need to earn money as well.

12 MINS LATER

15:45
... what a typical day would look like for you.
2:55
Yeah, so do you want to just share with our listeners a little bit about your backstory, you know, kind of where you were and how you've gotten to the place now where you're actually one of the people who actually help people create that visibility online?
3:10
So long story short, I live in Singapore.
3:15
I've lived in Singapore for 30 years and I came here to teach English originally.
3:20
So that's what I was doing.
3:21
And I did that for about 10 years.
3:24
And then over time, I got really interested in the publishing space.
3:28
We did some publishing for English as a foreign language books.

6 MINS LATER

9:30
What made you decide, or how did the pivot, if you want to call it that, from doing the copywriting business to the coaching, sort of tell us a little bit more about that.
6:23
Yeah,
6:23
I didn't put in the work.
6:26
I didn't grow up in an era where people were on camera, putting themselves on camera, right? For me, that was for movie stars.
6:35
So I found it very uncomfortable to be in front of the camera.
6:39
I didn't enjoy it.
6:40
I didn't like it.
6:42
But as I started my coaching business, I realized I had to be in front of the camera, right? I was the face of the business.

12 MINS LATER

19:18
Why do beginners feel like they need to be everywhere at once? They need to post on TikTok, they need to
SanaHOST
10:46
There will be people who will really, really accept you very warmly.
10:49
That's the nature of the internet, right? You've got people, these keyboard warriors that will judge and they're brave because they don't have to show their face.
10:59
So you have to kind of develop a bit of a thick skin there.
11:02
And really, there's two parts to it.
11:05
One is that when you are putting yourself out there, it's what is the message you're putting out? Who are you talking to? You've got to know exactly who you're going to help.
11:15
and reach and talk to just them.
11:17
And then you don't have to talk to anybody else.

11 MINS LATER

SanaHOST
22:18
Mm-hmm.
AbrahamHOST
10:19
Okay.
10:19
So when I was teaching, I felt very much like I didn't have choice at all.
10:25
Um, I had to go to work when I had to go to work and, um, I worked overtime.
10:31
I worked a lot of hours, and I had two young kids at the time, and I wanted to spend more time with them.
10:39
So that's how I ended up starting my business 'cause that solved that problem.
10:44
Um, so having my business kind of freed me from the chains of-

15 MINS LATER

AbrahamHOST
26:16
Okay
26:16
... you've gotta look at what's going on in the world, anticipate, because there's always gonna be change.
7:49
And I think this strategy is a great way to position yourself as an expert and get that live performance scratch, scratch that itch of how can I do this live, share my expertise, and make some great new connections.
8:04
Yeah, yeah, I love that.
8:05
I think, yeah, having a live audience, there's nothing better than actually riffing off live and talking to people live.
8:13
And then she had that skill anyway.
8:15
So it's a comfortable thing to be able to create a podcast that way.
8:20
And I think one of the things as well is that anyone can do a podcast about what they're passionate about.
8:27
And it's, you know, like I'm saying, in the 50s, it's the 60s, it's our time.

9 MINS LATER

17:41
Recorded in front of a live audience during the convention, the event showed how podcasts can become a central part of fan experiences by creating conversations that extend beyond traditional panels.
PedroHOST
2:32
So what was going on in your life when coaching became more than just an idea?
2:37
Okay.
2:39
It's something that I'd always toyed at, always wanted to do.
2:43
And I come from a history of teaching anyway, sort of helping people through teaching, but that was teaching English.
2:52
That's how I very first started was teaching English to people where it was a second language for them or a foreign language.
3:01
And then I got into copywriting because I live in Singapore and got to realize that a lot of companies needed help with their messaging and they weren't getting the message right.
3:12
So I ended up really falling into copywriting, did that for 20 years, ran an agency.

13 MINS LATER

PedroHOST
16:46
But how do you think about managing your time and energy so the business doesn't start owning you, for example?
