Angada

The southern party was the most important, because the dying vulture had said that Sita had been carried south.

It was led by Angada, the young son of Vali, and with him went Jambavan, the ancient king of the bears, and Hanuman.

Before they left, Rama took Hanuman aside.

He had seen something in him, he said, that made him believe that Hanuman, above all the others, would succeed.

Thirty, forty, fifty.

Jambavan said that in his youth he could have done it, but he was old now.

Angada said that he could reach Lanka, but did not know if he could come back.

And all this time Hanuman sat apart, silent.
