When I was with the Yankees, we had a ton of, uh, alum come back and, and try to help us out, Andy Pettitte being one of them, that was in our locker room all the time.

Where now with the Padres, we have, it's awesome that we have a lot of ex-Padres coming into the locker room to, to give their expertise.

And, um, I was fortunate enough to have people around me be in contact with these guys well before I even got to the big league.

And in very, very fast time, the Mets were being associated as New York's team.

The Yankees were like, "No, let's let the authorities handle everything, and we're the Yankees, and we're gonna take a step back." And by the way, let's not forget, both Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte hightailed it out of there in their private planes the minute those towers hit.

They're like, "We getting out of here," and they bolted.

But the New York guys, the Mets were s- they stayed.

Mate, I was literally thinking that.

Mm-hmm.

If you look at my stats against the Yankees, I would destroy their pitching staff, Pettitte, Roger, the whole thing.

They couldn't even pitch to me.

So I think they made an incredible move of acquiring me, nullifying me of going to any other team, even know, knowing that I wasn't gonna play hardly at all.

Mm-hmm.

So I remember one time in the World Series, and you could see it on video, um, the time I got the at bat, I'm sitting there with a jacket on, and Joe Torre says, "Jose, you're gonna get in that bat," in the, in the last game.

Uh, I said, "What?" So I'm talk- Rogers to my left, and, uh, uh, Pettitte's to my right, and there's, like, uh, security here, and I'm talking about, "Okay, guys, does anybody have a tin can to oil me?"
