Andy Jamieson was a gold medalist back in 1986 and has commentated on them for many years.

Um, I think Commonwealth Games are a very, very useful one f- purely from a swimming point of view, very, very useful for athletes because Europeans, um, is, is probably the first of the ones where the British nations come together, um, uh, but it's probably the least, um, uh, high, uh, high-stress one.

And then you go to the World Championships, and that's a pretty big one, and that's pretty, pretty full on, and then the Olympics is just on another level.

Uh, but the Commonwealth Games, because we're all split into our different nations, um, it's a lot more friendly, and they do call it the Friendly Games, and it's actually true.

It is a Friendly Games.

So it's a really good way of introducing international swimmers to the international stage.

Um, and I think an awful lot of swimmers go through Commonwealth Games, learn, learn the trade a little bit there if they're lucky to have peaked at the time that a Commonwealth is, uh, i- is coming on, and then they can go on to, um, you know, on to bigger and better things in, in the other bigger meets.
