Android XR

And then I hope Google keeps up development for it with Android XR.

You know, there's all these...

That's where, again, Steam's position in this I really love because they're... actually one of the more stable pieces.

So Samsung Smart Glasses are built as, like I said, intelligent eyewear.

And they make use of the Google Android XR operating system, which has been created by Google and Samsung.

XR is an abbreviation of extended reality technology.

And that's exactly what these glasses are trying to do.

And then there's a whole, like, a, n- it does feel like the path's running in many directions 'cause the thing I also think about is the whole glasses thing, because this is a VR headset, and we're entering into this world of, of ambitious glasses and glasses-like stuff, and you can already connect a, a pair of display glasses to the Steam Deck.

And we saw, in this past year, XReal Aura, which is Android XR based, which is coming out-

And so Meta didn't have a lot of competition.

And right now, between things Pico's doing and Meta and Valve and Apple and everything with Android XR across the spectrum with XReal and Samsung and Google, there's some really healthy competition, and I think it is pushing everyone to create better products and improve their OSs.

And so everything from the comfort and the lightness of the devices that are coming out, whether it's still in a more traditional VR form factor like a headset or some of the more glasses-facing options that have been coming out.

It's no secret that we got an XReal Catalyst grant.

But if you could bring back one discontinued Google product, what would it be?

I'm going to switch because since we're getting Android XR glasses, it's kind of like my Google Glass from the past coming back.

So I'm going to say Google Reader.

Do you remember Google Reader? Did you ever use Google Reader?

Apple wants to see exactly where the boundaries of social acceptability are before they ship a thing.

And Google's Android XR glasses are going to face that exact same social test tube this fall.

So you've got all these companies trying to cram smart features into glasses and earbuds.

But, and this goes back to what I mentioned at the start, how does a massive company like Uber just torch a year's budget in weeks trying to run AI?

It's wonderful as an experience, especially for consuming media.

But the next generation, I think it's called the Project Aura, the next generation of this is actually going to use mixed reality using the Google Android XR to allow you as a human being to, let's say, interact with six degrees of freedom.

So you can move around objects that you place in space and you can look at something and, let's say, interrogate it.

And if we look in our world, interrogating something might be looking at a transformer or a switchgear and having real-time telemetry from SCADA, real-time telemetry from the ADMS or OMS to have that updated to see what the state of actual devices are or to... interrogate about a premise where you're going to actually do some work, pull up all of the metadata that we know about that house, all of the history, and have it in essentially the heads-up displays that we've been promised since Terminator 2.

I'll say it very clearly.

That's what Google is bringing and creating with Android XR.

It's a platform to just let creatives create what they want to create.

What kind of app do you want to make? This is Android's reputation, in my opinion.

I've been a multi-year Android phone user, and I love the way things show up in the store, whether it's from a Play Store or sideloaded.

It's a friendly platform.

And Android XR is no different, right? I think it really legitimately empowers creators to create what they want to create with tools that are there, that they're used to, that are easy, on a platform that's open, that they're used to, that's easy.

I am very specifically talking about there are other platforms that are not open, that are closed, that are not friendly, that are not easy.
