Nobody told Troy.
Jon LewisHOST
12:27
Troy found out maybe from the Andrew Marchand report about this deal, but he was not told directly.
Jon LewisHOST
12:32
Feels like he was stabbed in the back.
Jon LewisHOST
12:34
And apparently that argument that was first reported by Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports prior to the Bills-Rams game, that argument was basically Joe finally, according to Dylan Byers, being fed up and saying, hey, are we really doing this? And then apparently, I guess they had some harsh words for each other.

10 MINS LATER

Jon LewisHOST
22:34
That can be the case across the board.
Jon LewisHOST
22:37
You could take the number eight guy on your NFL depth chart on those really long weeks where you have a ton of games, and you could put that person on the Super Bowl, and it wouldn't matter to 99.999%.
Jon LewisHOST
22:49
So if you're paying all these people so that Andrew Marchand will say nice things about you, or John Arand, or Richard Deitch, or even me, right? If you're doing all of this so that awful announcing will say good things, that's crazy.
Jon LewisHOST
23:08
With all due respect to the people like me, to the people like Rudy Marksky, or Michael McCarthy, or Michael Heaston, or the late great Prentice Rogers, and you can go back and forth and through all the history of covering sports media, the overwhelming majority of people watching don't care.
Richard DeitschHOST
16:06
Do I know if they're going to do that? I don't.
Richard DeitschHOST
16:09
And the fact that they already re-signed Herbstreet, per Andrew Marchand's reporting, tells me that the only way they would switch that is if they have somebody really in mind, which feels like a Sean McVeigh type or Travis Kelsey.
Richard DeitschHOST
16:21
So Armand, I'll ask you the same thing I sort of asked Derek, if we're going to sort of play this out musical chairs.
Richard DeitschHOST
16:27
Derek may turn out to be correct in his assessment in that the only move in terms of the analyst chair that happens is the ESPN chair.
Alex ShermanGUEST
15:22
Yeah, for sure.
Alex ShermanGUEST
15:23
I mean, there is a little cottage industry around this, you know, from a media side, someone like an Andrew Marchand or someone that's kind of constantly writing about and reporting about the ins and outs of talent at the sports broadcasting level.
Alex ShermanGUEST
15:39
That is, of course, read by all of the media executives.
Alex ShermanGUEST
15:42
This is their job.
Peter HambyHOST
23:29
million contract for a color commentator.
Dylan ByersGUEST
23:32
So this obviously set off some tension that was particularly rekindled when the athletic Andrew Marchand reported that Buck and ESPN had reached this deal.
Dylan ByersGUEST
23:45
Aikman felt betrayed.
Dylan ByersGUEST
23:47
He felt like he had been betrayed, not just because Joe did this deal with ESPN behind his back, but because at least in his version of events, nobody told him about it.
Mike FlorioHOST
4:11
If it does, there's a thought that the folks at ESPN already know who they want to hire and it's possible they already have a deal done that everyone's keeping their mouth shut about for now the speculation that Greg Olson will be the next guy John Orend of puck last week citing his sources the best prediction that his best sources could make is Greg Olson ends up in the Monday Night Football chair where does that leave Aikman then The Prime Video situation, initially it was reported that Kirk Herbstreet's new contract gave Prime Video an out to go get anyone else if they wanted to.
Mike FlorioHOST
4:50
I've since seen that Andrew Marchand of The Athletic clarified, supplemented the initial report to indicate that there's a buyout after each year in the herb street deal and that the buyout may cover all three years if they would make a change after this season that doesn't stop them from doing it but it adds to your total expense if you have to buy out the guy that you already have hired to replace that person with someone else the herb street deal is only three years so that's going to reduce the total exposure his prior deal was five years but still that becomes a factor in this so ESPN becomes available if they don't redo a deal with Aikman.
Mike FlorioHOST
5:34
Prime Video is available if Amazon finds somebody that compels them to pay that person and buy out Herbstreet.
Mike FlorioHOST
5:41
If Aikman doesn't go to Prime Video, now that the CBS spot is filled, does he just go be the number two at Fox? Does he replace Greg Olson if Greg Olson jumps to ESPN? That job isn't going to pay nearly as much.
Rob StatscarreraHOST
4:07
One thing you may have missed, speaking of Commanders Niners, the game attracted 17.9 million viewers on Monday Night Football.
Rob StatscarreraHOST
4:17
Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reports that the Pat McAfee alternate cast attracted a mere 351,000 viewers, which is less than 2% of the total audience.
Rob StatscarreraHOST
4:28
That's a wrap on today's 49ers in 5.

the thing is, with Amazon, we're guessing because we don't know who's on that list.
Bryan CurtisHOST
6:25
Andrew Marchand said, you know, it's more of a Sean McVay kind of idea.
Bryan CurtisHOST
6:29
Like if McVay were to retire from the Rams, as he's always threatening to do, Amazon would be all over him.
Bryan CurtisHOST
6:35
Yeah.
Bomani JonesHOST

Bomani JonesHOST
21:03
That being said, I did, uh, Andrew Marchand's podcast the other day, and a point that I put there, something I always say to...
Bomani JonesHOST
21:11
My agent reminds me all the time when people do things around work that I don't like, is, "Do not assume malice when incompetence might be the answer."
Dominique FoxworthGUEST

Dan DakichHOST

They don't.
Dan DakichHOST
54:43
Well, Andrew Marchand, I think that's his name, observed last year that nearly every quarterback on the all-time top 20 list either went into television or had the option to and predicted Rodgers would be the rare exception.
Dan DakichHOST
54:54
This is from one of those little clowns that awful announcer.
Dan DakichHOST
54:58
Front office sports Mike McCarthy reported that executives and talent agents privately feared Rodgers would come across as a pompous know-it-all.
Dylan ByersHOST
20:41
No knock on anyone specifically here.
Dylan ByersHOST
20:44
i find myself not trusting it quite as much i mean i do have sources who i trust right i obviously trust john arand uh here at puck i i trust like andrew marchand but you weighed out side of that too far and i don't know you know a dust up in a booth i don't trust that any more than i trust like a page six item on on you know a blow up at 60 minutes like i don't know what to believe Has there, have you confirmed, like, was there, what did they do in the booth? The only dust up I saw was, who was it, was it, who punched JJ Watts, the ball, tried to punch the ball out of JJ, Jim Nance,
Bryan CurtisGUEST
21:22
yes.
Dylan ByersHOST
21:23
I don't know, like, is that real?
