The One Nation leader wants to slash the tobacco excise by 75%, arguing the high cost of smokes is pushing people towards the black market.

But Member for Fenner, Andrew Leigh, says the answer is to put money into law enforcement to get illegal tobacco off our streets.

Australia's now got its lowest smoking rate on record, and that's been due in large part to the price of cigarettes.

Dropping the price of cigarettes would only increase the smoking rate.
