You know? So how do they do that is just a question I, I was obsessed with.
9:48
There's something about trees too growing in all directions at once, and that connection to rootedness as you reference in later chapters is quite a bit of emphasis in this gentleman's writing on what it means to be where you are and to feel a sense of pushing into the place.
10:08
And there's a whole chapter on lineage and ancestry and relationship to the stories of our families and how much that spreads out, particularly in America.
10:21
I found that section really moving being so... how much dissonance there is in so many of our life stories, especially out here on the West Coast, and the American story is very much about displacement and sort of absence of presence.
10:43
And to have that emphasis be plant-like in the writing is, it shifted the way I was thinking and feeling about my own family line or the history of this place or this landscape that we're in.
10:57
Do you feel like as you've published the book and gone down the road, do you feel like your relationships with your family and your community has changed from that?

17 MINS LATER

28:35
Yeah.
28:36
And I've been thinking about that a lot, and this is the, the question to come back, but you've read about double vision or two-eyed seeing, and there's a whole other theme in this book that's quite interesting, where this gentleman also has a good amount of, uh, meditation practice behind him and a relationship with Buddhism, which is a place where we have a lot of overlap.
20:10
There'd been a couple of rain delays, hadn't there? And did you think immediately afterwards that that was probably the best final or the best tennis match you'd ever seen?
20:18
Well, I was I was cramping.
20:20
I don't know what they were doing.
20:21
Yeah, no, I did.
20:23
And I actually thought it in the third set tiebreak when when Roger Federer played the single, probably the single best shot I've ever seen.
20:32
Nadal had hooked his forehand deep into the backhand side and it was deep and spinning and the revolutions on it kicked it up and Roger went across on his backhand single-handed backhand trying to fend off Nadal's forehand you know this this was a he made a career of trying to handle that it's a lifelong endeavor trying to handle the forehand with a single-handed backhand high above the shoulder you have to have perfect technique So he's down...
21:00
Look, I've forgotten the exact details.
24:10
How are you approaching that? How are you feeling about coming to the end of the road?
