[lips smack] So what of that question about cooperation now with the AfD? Is it time for a rethink? Andreas Rödder has been urging one.

He's Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Mainz and a longtime member of the CDU, the Christian Democrats.

He resigned from a senior role in the party in twenty twenty-three over the issue.

Um, and the question is, do voters, uh, vote for the AfD because of those attitudes or instead of them? And obviously, as far as we know, uh, and if we look at the voters, not, um, at the office holders of the AfD, of the functionaries, uh, if we look to the voters, they seem to be so disappointed about mainstream politics in Germany.

Uh, they feel to be not seen, not to be heard, so that they, instead of that vote out of disappointment, vote for the AfD, and, uh, this is a problem of the mainstream parties.
