Like, he doesn't speak that fondly about Small Creeps Day.
JaredHOST
14:06
He doesn't talk that fondly about And Then There Were Three.
JaredHOST
14:10
Uh, so man of our times kind of fits that mold.
JaredHOST
14:13
I just, I think back to when we were talking about how happy he looked when they were doing the video for trick of the tail.
JakeHOST
14:37
You just kind of want to be like, what's wrong with you, man? Yeah.
JaredHOST

Now, in his other contribution to the studio recording of Duke is a song called Alone Tonight, which is actually following a little bit more of the kind of the most recent trend that we've seen Rutherford taking the band.
JaredHOST
15:05
it's a little bit of a misnomer that phil collins is the guy that pulled uh genesis into this kind of like romantic ballad band of the 80s right because if you just if you're keeping score right we had on wind and weathering we had um the um your own special way right written by mike rutherford And then there were three.
JaredHOST
15:31
We had Follow You, Follow Me, written by Mike Rutherford.
JakeHOST
7:57
So there, you know, that's an important point.
JakeHOST

Um, this album is, in my head at least, is different from, from And Then There Were Three in the, just in the sense that it, they're so much more in the pocket, right?
JaredHOST
8:08
Mm-hmm.
JaredHOST
8:09
Mm-hmm.

What I found was that more recently with some of the kind of... well, the technology for reproducing some of those 1970s synthesizers, the sounds of those 1970s synths, you know, being incredibly accessible, you know, I was able to almost like recreate Tony Banks's setup from around about 1976, 77, 78, very easily, very cheaply indeed, you know, if I was going to buy the hardware now, I'd be like, you know, a few hundred thousand pounds or so.
Ian NealGUEST

So, that was on the one hand the kind of technical ability to kind of recreate that Sonic character and then on the other hand I got the sense that in a way, that period, with And Then There Were Three, around Duke, has been a period of Genesis's history where there's a lot of resistance against it, on the one hand.
Shaun GeraghtyHOST
76:58
Yeah, indeed.
Shaun GeraghtyHOST
76:59
Yeah.
Chris ClarkPANELIST
61:39
It's also a marvelous, marvelous Hackett album.
Chris ClarkPANELIST
61:43
It's obvious to me that when we were talking about, and then there were three and that was a drop-off, Hackett's absence has a lot to do with that.
Chris ClarkPANELIST
61:51
He lends a lot to this album.
Chris ClarkPANELIST
61:53
This is one of those albums that I can, and I did it last night and so I can say it with confidence.
Chris ClarkPANELIST
63:25
So probably my favorite Genesis album, and 11th Earl of Mar is my favorite song on it.
Graham HarfleetHOST
63:31
Wow.
Graham HarfleetHOST
63:31
So I think last week, did you say that? And then there were three was your favorite.
Graham HarfleetHOST
63:35
Well, I
Shaun GeraghtyHOST
76:02
Mm.
Ian NealGUEST
76:02
And on, on the other hand, um, I got the sense that in a way, um, that period sort of, you know, around, well, with And Then There Were Three, uh, around Duke, has, has been a, a period of Genesis' history where, you know, th- there's lots of kind of, um, resistance against it.
Shaun GeraghtyHOST
76:22
Mm.
Ian NealGUEST
76:23
Uh, on the one hand-
Ian NealGUEST
76:37
... and say, "Look, you know, you know,"
Shaun GeraghtyHOST
76:38
Yeah
Ian NealGUEST
76:38
... w- And Then There Were, And Then There Were Three-
Shaun GeraghtyHOST
76:40
Yeah
