And Still I Rise

All right.

Which American poet is known for works like Still I Rise and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings?

Oh, okay.

Her voice.

And it was when I was training for that race, I h- was brainstorming ideas just for myself 'cause I knew I wanted a tattoo to commemorate the whole entire thing.

Um, and I've always loved Maya Angelou's poem, Still I Rise.

Um, and so because this was for me, this was a tattoo for myself, I was like, "Oh, I'll turn it into Still I Run," like, even though I have depression and anxiety, still I run.

And then changing the I to a semicolon for the Semicolon Project and learning about never giving up and continuing on with life.

Yeah, she was.

She was like, girl, still I rise.

What? I have chills.

You fall.

Still I rise.

I couldn't tell you one other bar from that joint, but still I rise is my spirit.

No, you

know another

...

the poem she's written that really, really touches me every single time is, uh, Still I Rise.

Now it says, "I am the hope and the dream of the slave." That really just, no.

Mm-hmm.
