Anakim

There, there's two faithful ones that everybody knows about, right? Joshua and Caleb are saying, "Hey, God says go take it.

Let's go take it." But the other spies are like, "Are you kidding? There, there are the sons of the Anakim are there.

The Nephilim are in the land.

They're, we are like grasshoppers to them." Hmm.

Yeah

... between Goliath and Nephilim, and I cannot stress this enough how confidently wrong this man is when he says that.

Numbers 13:33, the spies come back from scouting Canaan and they say, and I'm gonna read it directly, "There also," or, "There also we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, are part of the Nephilim, and we became like grasshoppers in our sight, and so we were in their sight." So the sons of Anak, they're the Anakim, okay? Explicitly identified by Moses here in Numbers as Nephilim, as a branch of Nephilim.

So Nephilim is the umbrella term, and there were, there were tribes within the Nephilim.

This was a land that had all kinds of things truly." He says, "But we had a problem.

We saw these guys who were giants, the sons of the Anakims, and we were like grasshoppers in our eyes.

Then we became like grasshoppers in their eyes." And the Bible called it an evil report.

An evil report.

Here's the conflicting information, "But the people living there are powerful, and their cities and towns are fortified, and they're very large.

And we also saw the Anakim, the descendants of Anak, who lived in the desert." Now, the Anakim were of the tribe of Skywalker, and the Force was strong wi- with them.

[laughs] Uh, if you believe that, uh, I've got some land to sell you too.

Uh, when you overemphasize the negative, it creates a lot more stress in your life.

And you see this with the explanation with Joshua and the spies, they get into Canaan, they go, oh my gosh, these dudes are huge.

They're like the Anakim, and the Anakim come from the Nephilim, and the Nephilim are part of these giant tribes with the Rephaim, and there's a linguistic connection that's taking place with all of these beings.

And then you go, okay, so what happens to these beings? Well, a spirit that is half divine, spiritual, and half human has no place to go.

It doesn't belong in the spiritual realm, but it doesn't fully belong inside.

Deuteronomy chapter 2 mentions a few tribes of unusually large people called the Rephaim.

The text says, like the Anakim, they are usually reckoned as Rephaim, though the Moabites call them Emim.

Deuteronomy chapter 3 also mentions a King Og of Bashan, a guy with a really big bed.

Now, only King Og of Bashan was left of the remnant of the Rephaim.

My strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming.

So now give me this hill country of which the Lord spoke on that day, for you, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there wi- with great fortified cities.

It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall drive them out, just as the Lord said.' Then Joshua blessed him, and he gave Hebron to Caleb, the son of Jeph- Je- Jephunneh for an inheritance.

Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, to this day, because he wholly followed the Lord, the God of Israel.

Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath Arba.

Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim.

And the land had rest from war." That's the word of the Lord.

Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon has perished.

O remnant of the Anakim, how long will you gash yourselves? Ah, sword of the Lord, how long till you are quiet? Put yourself into your scabbard; rest, and be still.

How can it be quiet, when the Lord has given it a charge? Against Ashkelon and against the seashore he has appointed it.

Chapter forty-eight: Judgment Against Moab.

While the armies thus faced each other, there came one day out of the ranks of the Philistines a champion named Goliath.

very terrible he was to behold for he was of the race of those sons of anak for fear of whom the israelites under moses had murmured and had been therefore condemned to wander forty years in the wilderness And while Joshua had finally led them across the Jordan after the death of Moses and had smitten the Anakim and overcome them, there had remained three cities where their seed still dwelt, Gaza and Gath and Ashdod.

And it was from Gath that this Goliath had come with the invading army.

He was half as tall again as an ordinary man.
