Anaconda

In 1905, after one of those parties, the sisters had a falling out, Emma moved out, and the sisters never saw each other again.

Bridget left Fall River after the trial and eventually settled in Anaconda, Montana, where she married a man named John in 1905 and lived quietly for decades.

She reportedly told a childhood friend that she'd been less than candid on the witness stand for Lizzie's sake, though that story surfaced only after her death in 1948 and can't be checked.

Lizzie died of pneumonia at Maplecroft on June 1, 1927, at 66, and she left $30,000 to the Animal Rescue League of Fall River.

He was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and Sigma Xi, and he began his medical career by training in pathology under Frank B. Mallory at Boston City Hospital in 1905-1906.

He then spent a year at the Columbus, Ohio State Hospital and two years at St. Ann's Hospital in Anaconda, Montana.

So the biographical sketch from Columbia University has a bunch of details and I'll bring some things in and out from there.

But now I want to turn to an article called The Orton Story, which was written by June Orton, who is Dr. Orton's second wife.

After it was all over, Bridget got out of Massachusetts entirely.

She moved west, eventually to Anaconda, Montana, and she got married, lived a long, quiet life, and eventually died in 1948.

Now, here's an eerie little footnote, though.

According to one account, later in her life, Bridget told a friend in confidence that she had helped Lizzie out at the trial and that had been less than fully honest on the stand.

Please pray for humility and reconciliation so that they may reunite before it's too late.
