I'd been writing prose up until then, and I kind of never looked back.

Uh, as an undergraduate, I took a writing seminar with Amy Clampitt, who was a wonderful person.

Uh, in graduate school in the '90s at the University of Notre Dame, I took several poetry and translation courses with John Matthias, and then I came back to graduate school in 2004 through 2006, University of Illinois, Chicago.

Along the way, I, I started writing poems that were very impersonal, trying to erase myself as much as possible from what I was writing about.

Well, uh, Cliff Mason here is very impressed that you studied with Amy Clampitt, and I am too.

That's really cool.
