AMSAT - The Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation
The Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation, or AMSAT, is a worldwide group of Amateur Radio Operators. AMSAT’s goal is to foster Amateur Radio’s participation in space research and communication. The Organization was founded to continue the efforts, begun in 1961, by Project OSCAR, a west coast USA-based group which built and launched the very first Amateur Radio satellite, OSCAR, on December 12, 1961, barely four years after the launch of Russia’s first Sputnik. Today, the “home-brew” flavor of these early Amateur Radio satellites lives on, as most of the hardware and software now flying on even the most advanced AMSAT satellites is still largely the product of volunteer effort and donated resources. Though we are fond of traditions our designs and technology continue to push the outside of the envelope.www.amsat.org

It is always a great time to make an eyeball CUSO with those you work on the satellites and learn about what is happening with the engineers and current projects.

Also, if you're in the area and need to have some QSL cards checked for your ARRL Worked All States, ARRL VUCC, or ARRL DXCC, I would be happy to check those cards for you.

How I got into ham radio, a friend recommended it to me, and I got licensed in January, and I've been doing AMSAT stuff, so that's been fun.

Well, you're the first person to mention AMSAT, so can you tell us what your setup is like? Are you doing the FM satellites, maybe some of the other ones? What's your equipment like for satellites?
A
45:37AaronGUEST
Yeah, I got an ICOM 9700 Yasuo a G5500 for a rotor, a SAT controller for the rotor, and I built it just so it could be deployed for field day.
A

All right.
HRWB 270 - Satellite Tracking with CSN Technologies
M
101:07MikePANELIST
But thanks to the integration we have in today's radios, we have hardware that's available to keep track of, um...
M
101:15MikePANELIST
We see common frequency on the moon, but AMSAT's always said common frequency on the satellite as well, and you can go read all about that.
M
101:22MikePANELIST
But the CSN technology hardware that, uh, Frank and, and Mike and Keith are gonna talk about today has given us an incredible plug-and-play solution that I want them to elaborate on, where you can buy this black box, you hook it up to a USB cable, you connect it to your Wi-Fi, you plug it into the back of your 9700, which I believe, uh, Michael, was one of the first things you integrated it with.
M
101:45MikeGUEST
Correct.
15 MINS LATER
M
117:07MikeGUEST
Uh, we've had Zoom calls with customers that found bugs for us.
M
117:11MikeGUEST
We've had Zoom calls with customers that have gave us, um, great, um, ideas and different things.
M
117:18MikeGUEST
Uh, we have the, uh, the AMSAT field day team that made a couple of suggestions, and the AMSAT team uses the Sat Tracker, uh, to, to score many points on, on field day.
M
117:31MikeGUEST
We have schools that are using the SAT to make the, um, ARIS contacts with the space station.
