Amrit Desai

So my teacher, um, so he's 94.

His name is Amrit Desai.

He came over from India when he was a teenager in the '60s.

He was one of the first-

... and Richard Miller, and Stephanie Lopez, and, and Amrit Desai's granddaughter.

Wow.

Um, and [laughs] all on a stage in a line.

Actually, I always get his name slightly wrong.

Amrit Desai from Kripalu.

But you know what?

Oh.

And what I realized was very interesting, you know, like Kripalu community was a renunciate community.

Right.

But Amrit Desai was not.

That's why he was Yogi Amrit Desai, not Swami Amrit Desai.

Thanksgiving of 1990, I decided to go somewhere to meditate, and somebody recommended the Krupalu Yoga Center.

So I went there, and there was a note on the main chapel that said that the spiritual teacher, the guru, Yogi Amrit Desai, was speaking the next morning at 6.30.

So I thought, well, when in Rome, so I went and listened to this talk with about 75 other people and I was hooked.

And I had the experience the couple of days I was there of feeling joy that was not triggered by anything.
