Although that said, despite a 7% jump in the oil price overnight, we only had Santos up around 0.9% and Woodside was near flat.

Two of the stocks we looked at earlier this week for a buy, the two refineries in Australia, Ampol and Viva Energy, they had a mixed session.

Ampol down 0.3% while Viva managed a 2.4% rise.

Defensive sectors were mostly flat.

Telecoms, staples and utilities.

So they were doing 100-octane fuel that was – that people would go and sniff out for – like search out to put in their performance cars.

And I remember chatting to – Ampol ended up doing – or E85, it was pretty short-lived, but a blend of up to 85% ethanol, 15% petrol.

And I remember them saying at the time that they'd put it into a petrol station, I think it was in Sydney somewhere, and there weren't any cars yet that could take it, any new cars that could take it.

But suddenly their sales ramped up and they couldn't work it out.

You've got Woodside there up by 2.5%.

Santos, Ampol, Horizon all doing well as well.

Uh, having a quick look at what copper stocks are doing as we continue to move towards electrification.

The increase and, I guess, interest in Aussies buying EVs due to the fuel crisis is just exponential.

Oh, the BP?

No, the Ampol.

So just on Woodside itself, One thing I have noticed is that the more steadier sort of price moves have actually been in the refiners.

So Ampol and Viva, if you look at their charts in comparison to Woodside, it's actually just been like a nice steady uptrend.

So that's where the money has been easier to make in the energy space.

But that being said, I think that there will be a few spikes going forward.

On the ASX, energy stocks weighed on the market once again, falling even as crude oil held above US$95 a barrel.

The sector was dragged down by fuel refiner Ampol dropping 6% to $41.65 and Viva Energy 3.7% to $2.90 as both traded ex-div.

The mining giants also came under pressure despite stronger prices for iron ore and copper.

Rio Tinto lost 0.7% to $175.90 and BHP shed 2.4% to $60.25. Gold producers, however, had a better run as bullion held above 4,400 US an ounce.

None as large as what we saw yesterday, of course, with major mining and energy stocks trading ex-dividend.

But we have got Viva Energy, Aussie Broadband and Ampol all ex-dividend today, which is why they're declining.

And dividend payment wise, we've got Helia Group and GWA Group both paying out dividends to investors.

All right, looking ahead to tonight, US futures are pointing to another subdued session for the US market when it opens up as traders really await those key jobs numbers that we'll get tonight.
