And so a lot of what we do in the lab is growing these networks across sort of transparent soil almost, like a, a way that you can see the networks and use microscopy to follow these networks and understand how they navigate space.

We have developed together with biophysicists at the Biophysics Institute, uh, called AMOLF here in Amsterdam, these imaging robots that allow us to track individual nodes across these networks.

So in any given experiment, we're tracking about half a million of these nodes, these fungal decisions, whether to go left or right or make a bridge when they fuse together.

And they actually make a beautiful supply chain because what you're imagining, and I want you to, to really close your eyes and picture this, is that the plant is pouring carbon down into this root system, and the carbon, which now we can label with a fluorescent label, so we can actually watch it travel through this open pipe system all the way down to the tips where the fungi use the carbon to keep building their network.
