Amherst County

Somehow I got on this list on Facebook saying that, you know, they're talking about all the annual festivals that are going on.

So, um, if the weather's great, there's a few good ones: the Amherst County Apple Harvest Festival and Drumheller's Apple Orchard Festival, other making festivals.

Go out and enjoy this weather.

It'll be cooling off.

Um, but if you are out in the country or out in the plains or out in, you know, like remote Montana or the Dakotas or, or some place that they might not have really, really good cell signals.

And quite frankly, uh, surprisingly, there are places in Bedford County, Amherst County, Appomattox County that, that you...

There are, there's no cell signals.

Uh, that, uh, it, it's hard to get, it's hard to get broadband internet, uh, into these places.

And, uh, you know, lived on Cedar Street and graduated from Nelson County High.

I mean Amherst County High.

I grew up- I graduated from Nelson County High in '75, and her in '76.

the town council was under a real conundrum because these houses were, that represented the town, which had, was about the size of Amherst County.

It had 20,000 people.

So take one example.

Amherst County last December spent $37,000 on diesel.

This August, it spent $78,000.

That's more than a $40,000 difference for a month.

It was from 5 to 9 p.m.

It was in front of the old Amherst County Courthouse.

And it was almost a surreal setting.

It was really neat that the bands were set up there with the spotlights and the monument and the courthouse and the shadows that were there.

Well, inquiring minds want to know.

But also inquiring minds have found out [clears throat] that to the north of Amherst County, the, uh, welcome to Amherst County sign is back.

Oh, good.

What happened to the sign that says, "Welcome to Amherst County"? Hey, Bob.

When you're coming south on 29 into Amherst County from Nelson, or is that what you're talking about? Yeah, the sign's gone.

I'm under the impression, unless you know different, Sunny- I didn't even notice it was gone ...

these signs get stolen sometimes, so I assumed it was vandals.

One, this is a writ of error to review the judgment of the Supreme Court of Appeals of the State of Virginia, affirming a judgment of the Circuit Court of Amherst County, by which the defendant in error, the superintendent of the State Colony for Epileptics and Feeble-Minded, was ordered to perform an operation of salpinectomy upon Carrie Black, the plaintiff in error, for the purpose of making her sterile.

The case comes here under the contention that the statute authorizing the judgment is void under the Fourteenth Amendment as denying to the plaintiff in error due process of law and equal protection of the laws.

I'm like, well, I absolutely love the mountains, so we'll see how this works out.

So we ended up buying property in Amherst County, and he built a house, and we got married in the backyard.
