American Quarter Horse

Whoa, the American Quarter Horse could briefly reach up to 55 miles an hour in short sprints.

And Arabian horses.

They reach peak speeds around 33 to 40 miles an hour.

Yes.

So Chicago came to me late last fall, um, as kind of a long yearling, and he is a, um, Quarter Horse Brabant cross.

He's a beautiful what you would consider dunskin.

And his job and purpose when I bought him, knowing that my main mare is going to be, you know, coming into retirement probably here in the next few years, um, I do use her as a mounted unit patrol horse.

You know, you can use smaller horses.

My other horse is, is not big by any means.

She is all cow bred, uh, Quarter Horse.

But just a really good young horse that would have a good brain that, you know, also had a little bit of girth to him.

Those really large infrastructure projects that we have to attract out-of-state dollars into Wyoming, it's gonna explode our race meet.

I love watching the Quarter Horses run me.

Uh, you know, I, I have, I have more affinity for them.

I've, uh, I've ridden Quarter Horses.

I understand Quarter...

I love to watch them run.

I was watching these quarter horses and, work in the cattle operation.

And I was like, wow, that'd be a lot easier doing that on a quarter horse than on a thoroughbred, you know, I mean, because their kind of purpose, you know, created for it.

And so I decided that I myself would switch over to quarter horses at that point, and that I would more embrace the new reality that not only had I married Glenn, I had married into a cattle operation that looked like it was going to continue into the foreseeable future and was going to be part of my life, which I guess I hadn't really thought about until I was trying to gather cows on a thoroughbred and going, why is this so hard? And not having the option to opt out because if you're family, you're staffed.

Yeah,

right.

You, uh, if you have a horse behind the hand or too deep and you take a halt, then the loin will come up, and so on.

So we're, we have to see in that body how this horse is built, that nowadays when we educate from Shetland ponies to Shire horses over Akhal-Teke to Quarter Horses or Iberian horses to Warmbloods, they are so different.

So we cannot just take a theory.

Earlier when a cavalry regiment had only one kind of horse, they could more have a theory that for that goal, this type of horse, this theory.

And I just adored that horse and that pony, and rode all over until they got me another horse.

It was a part Tennessee Walker, part Quarter Horse.

Just pure heaven, riding through orange groves and canals and-

So we've got TJ and DJ.

Um, TJ is a Quarter Horse.

Um, he's m- red, uh, brown, uh, chestnut.
