They're pulled over on the dirt path with hazard lights on.

But the traffic was so bad, paramedics with American Medical Response had to leave their ambulance a couple blocks away and run to them.

And in a bit of incredible luck, a doula was stuck in the very same traffic jam and helped Coach Carolyn through the delivery before paramedics got there.

So why was traffic such a mess? Well, Caltrans had all northbound lanes of Highway 101 closed through Hospital Curve for weekend resurfacing, sending more drivers onto 19th Avenue, Park Presidio, and other nearby city streets.

Well, it's gotten a lot better with private ambulance, and I can speak to that because I was one of the people that started critical incident stress management back in 1996.

We were working for American Medical Response in Northern California.

We said, hey, we need to come up with a plan and see if they'll buy into it because this really is a necessary thing.

And to make a long story longer, they— We kept putting in proposals, and they finally accepted it.

The county signed a long-term performance-based agreement with AMR in July 2025, which includes semi-annual compliance updates.

In January, AMR missed the 90% response time requirement for emergency calls in the suburban and the urban zones.

And in February, AMR missed the requirement in the urban zone.

But the county's Kim LaCroix says since March, AMR has hit response time requirements in every geographical area.

And really this improvement occurred because AMR was able to adjust and added ambulances.

The first Falls officers to arrive at the crime scene reported they found a male victim with a gunshot wound to one of his legs.

and that victim was treated by Falls firefighters and paramedics from an AMR ambulance before being transported to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo.

The second victim was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center in a private vehicle.

He was treated for a wound to his buttocks and was later transferred to ECMC for further treatment.
