American English Coonhound

We're going to get her dried up.

We're going to get her drawed up and hopefully have her ready and rolling by Battle of the Breeds at Odie, Oklahoma in December and Western English Days.

That is my hope.

We will see if that happens.

She just, we cannot get it put together in a cast.

And I mean, she's loud.

She's a blue English, which I like.

And she's loud.

Right, right.

There's been blue ticks, there's been blackened cans, and I'm sure there was an English thrown in there.

There's good in all breeds.

Oh, absolutely.

Yeah, I agree with that.

And, you know, speaking from especially the English side of it with the guys I know, they're – you know, they heavy, heavy line breed.

And I think.

A few guys that I know now, they're starting to see, hey, if we're going to do something here and do some winning with a dog that is different than a walker, we're going to have to try something else.

yeah i mean you know the i made a cross here years ago and unfortunately i i ended up losing all the puppies because i bought a dog and brought it in and i don't know if it had all the vets i talked to you know went into this big spill about biosecurity and bringing new dogs into a kennel when you have puppies and Anyway, so I've tried to raise some dogs up and try to have some nice females.

And when I brought that dog in, that caused the issues with my pups.

He was an English dog, but he's kind of different than some English dogs I've been around.

He's not really wild and crazy, but, I mean, he goes hard.

Uh, probably my best one, if I had to, if I had to think about it, uh, you know, a little... [laughs] Y'all talking about, you know, have I always stayed with Walkers.

Uh, the best one I probably ever had was a English female named Jam.

Uh, she was, uh, what was she at? A Singing Pat Whitey, and I don't know her mom.

Uh, she was, she was just a coon dog.

I wanted to show people outside the breed there were Redbones that had high drive, that go hunt and get the job done.

I wanted guys inside the breed to be able to watch Redbones hunt coons, and I wanted family-friendly content for country folks that enjoy that kind of thing, where it don't matter if you're an English dog, a Feist, you might be a turkey hunter, but you just wanna watch a coon hunt, man.

And you can just sit down and put it up on your TV and watch a coon hunt.

[clears throat] And that's kinda where it started.

I love seeing good conformation dogs.

Um, I, I personally have never showed a dog.

I have an English hound up here that, um, I allowed...

Uh, I put in a, our local show, and she won.

[laughs]

There aren't, but there aren't very many English dogs that can take a summer of hunting, especially this summer, you know? And there ain't very many dogs that could take it, but the dog, you say he moves around good, he hunts hard, he don't slow down, he don't do any of that?

Yeah, no.

I mean, there was one night it was like 90 degrees still at night.

Right.

You know, so to have Colt think it was good enough, the dog must be pretty nice.

He's had some really good English dogs too.

A lot of people don't probably know.
