American Black Film Festival

Snowfall, which again, one of my favorite shows of all time, I had to watch the pilot maybe, like, four or five times to get into it.

Like, I saw it at ABFF and I was like, "Hmm, okay," even with John Singleton sitting right there, and I was like, "Hmm, okay." Unc is real cute, but otherwise, mm, okay.

Wasn't all that interested.

And then people started, you know, raving about Snowfall and talking about it, and I was like, "This sounds like something I would really love, but I don't know.

So I am excited for this.

I did the panel, um, for ABFF in the summer, um, with the, with some of the people from the new cast, and with Debbie Allen, and they're just really, really excited to, um, start this.

And it's not a reboot.

A lot of people have been calling this a reboot.

That's predominantly a white mainstream regional slash nationwide film festival.

Then we did the American Black Film Festival and that's hip hop and gospel, right? So to get in those doors, you know, it's been incredible.

Yeah.

yeah that's probably that's that's the best part the learning curve and so if i did it again uh those are lessons that i have in me that i've learned that i won't make again or i won't make those mistakes again or i'll imbibe on the opportunities even more

So like a kind of like a watershed conversation one was, um, when I, the first time I screened Afro Pump to a mainstream audience, it was at a mainstream black audience.

It was at the American Black Film Festival in 2003.

It was only the second time or third time I'd ever screened it.

And it was, the American Black Film Festival is a very mainstream black film festival.

Like the kind of like where, the kind of place where like Tyler Perry would like, do well, you know? So this audience was that.

It was in Miami.
