During the Middle Kingdom, especially under the 12th dynasty, the god became deeply important in royal ideology.

Pharaohs named Amenemhat and Senusret built in the Fayyum and helped transform the region through major irrigation and settlement projects.

It is tempting to see a connection.

A royal government extending canals, managing water, reclaiming land and making fertile fields where there had been marsh or desert.
