It's actually kind of funny.

I was one of the founding members in 1992.

When we opened the store, Vermont wasn't known as the food mecca that it is now.

I mean, there were some big Vermont names, like Ben & Jerry's, and Cabot, and King Arthur Flour, but there weren't the hundreds and hundreds of small food producers that there are now.

When we opened, we had an idea of bringing great food to a community that would appreciate it, but we w- we wanted to always remain accessible to all members of the community, so from the beginning we determined that we would never use the term gourmet, because that sort of ex- it, it implies exclusivity, and we never wanted to be that sort of exclusive store.
