I feel like when, like...

the characters because of the way they're written and the lines that are on the page have to like tell you that something is incredible and then like yes thing has to live up like when you watch that thing you do if the song is not as good as all the characters are telling us it is the movie does not fucking work and um and similar words like the eyes the eyes look in your eyes look in your eyes and weirdly amanda fix's eyes like step up to the plate of like i can see how this would capture the obsession of a person because she is so evocative and like i think she does a good job at like the movie's not overly concerned with like her and jillian anderson like looking alike but they capture a similar energy and i don't know if it's like to me it almost feels like Jillian like was formulating Billy and then like watch this performance to tap into the like saddest parts of Billy because when she's like watching the movie it feels like she's almost being pulled back to that version of herself so like it's just like a brilliant like dual performance but also like Amanda Fix like a kind of a low-key MVP of the movie I think

I'm Brian, I'm on the phone with Ashwin, and today we are talking about Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun, starring Hannah Einbinder, Gillian Anderson, Jack Haven, and Amanda Fix.

In this film, a director hired to resurrect a summer camp slasher franchise from the '80s becomes obsessed with casting the final girl from the original film.

If you're new to the show, we'll talk about this movie spoiler-free, just sharing some background info for the first 15 minutes or so, but after that we are gonna switch into spoiler mode and walk through the plot in detail.

So this is their third movie.

And it stars Hannah Einbender, Gillian Anderson, Amanda Fix, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Jack Haven and a bunch of others.

After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the camp miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection.

But when she visits the original star and the reclusive actress, Friday the Mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear and and delirium.

Um, and I don't know that actress at all.

Her name is Amanda Fix, but, um, um, but I thought, I thought she was great as well.

It's funny that, like, her name never sort of comes up when we discuss the movie, but she is actually a pivotal part in it by playing young Billy.

Um, and I also, this is the first film that I've seen Hannah Einbinder in, 'cause she's still, even though we've seen her in five seasons of Hacks, she still is a relatively new player, I guess.
