And I think this is one of those episodes where I've been saying all along, they've been leaving breadcrumbs and some of the comments earlier in the season with the changelings and the founders, where it was talking about how, uh, in the search where the federation's not going to be a problem much longer much like if you look at u.s history uh particularly during the cold war the u.s and the soviets never really engaged directly we had kind of these proxy fights thinking about afghanistan for example and some others is the founders are fucking with shit in the alpha quadrant they attempted here to send the defiant to start a war between the federation and the zen kathy So we're seeing, I think, some of those pieces play out that have been, as we've said, Jesse, this one is a much slower burn than what B5 was.

This one definitely took a lot longer to get started.

imagine if the borg had actually tried right right if they sent more than one ship yeah they don't like especially as we see later right like in voyager when they go to like there's thousands and thousands billions i mean or millions of borg ships like they've just if they ever actually wanted to take out the federation and take out the alpha quadrant they easily could like if they just sent two cubes that would have been it it wouldn't be able to stop both of them similarly they just you know we're lucky they they don't fully assimilate picard because they decide they want for some reason they want to negotiate with the federation

all but for some reason they decide oh no we need a federation officer and diplomat we're going to make him our ambassador to talk to the federation When they could just do it, they could just assimilate.

And if your conscience is bothering you, you should soothe it with the knowledge that you may have just saved the entire Alpha Quadrant, and all it cost was the life of one Romulan senator, one criminal, and the self-respect of one Starfleet officer.

So in the previous chapter, when the Borg went to such extreme speeds, and then in this chapter, they're talking about the fact that the Borg were from the Delta Quadrant.

So that got me wondering if the show ever addresses how the Borg got to the Alpha Quadrant so quickly after the first encounter, because we see them on the opposite side of the galaxy in the Q episode, whose name is escaping me.

It's not hiding Q. It's I forget what.

But then that's mid season two.

And a year and a half later, end of season three, this Delta Quadrant threat has made it to the Alpha Quadrant.

And even though this book doesn't connect those dots, I do feel like it gives us enough information to answer that question in our heads.

They can, whatever their propulsion is, if they have the fuel resources, they can go extremely fast.
