Allopurinol, you want to make sure that a severe allergic reaction called Stevens-Johnson reaction doesn't happen.

It's rare, but if you get a rash afterwards, you definitely want to, you know, let your provider know.

Like we alluded to earlier with uloric, within that first month to six weeks, you know, you could have... gouty flares.

The allopurinol also interacts with azathioprine or metcaptopurine, so you do need to significantly reduce the doses of those drugs if you're going to use allopurinol alongside them.

Rarely, it can also cause low blood counts.

Allopurinol is also one of the first culprits we consider when our patients develop a rash.

Mostly it's just irritating for the patient and frustrating, but you do need to be aware of it.

and to cease the allopurinol because it can also cause some very nasty skin reactions, including DRESS or DHS or whatever it's called now in some patients.
