How did Iowa Kind come to be a passion project for you, Allie?

Yeah, I grew up in Iowa, as I mentioned, as you mentioned, and moved away for about 15 years after college, graduated from UNI, and then left.

I was in Kansas City for about five years and then traveling and ended up in Northern California for about seven or eight years.

And so... getting outside of the Midwest.

I think there were things that I was excited to explore different cultures, but also felt drawn to come back, especially as we started raising our little young family.

So my husband and I intentionally chose to move back to Iowa when we started our family, and so we moved back in 2024, right, during an election year, and Jonathan, my husband, got a job at the DNR, and so we were resettling in Iowa, and for me, it was like putting on a comfortable pair of jeans, where it's like, oh, this is familiar, I remember this, and the smell of the beautiful Iowa fields, and the, the thunderstorms and the fireflies because they don't have those up in the northern northern areas of the coastline in california so it's really lovely to be back but also another familiarity and nostalgia came back which was this iowa niceness of the neighbors that wave at you and the polite conversation and the just olympic level ability to small talk about the weather my husband did not live in Iowa prior to moving here in 2024.

And he came back after his first day of work and was like, everyone is so nice.

I love it.

yes they're not still in business today

but yeah I'm like in this situation thinking like, okay, I'll start low and then I'll work up to $600 for three months.

And so that was actually very difficult to sell.

If anything, it may be one here, one there.

And they were the worst clients of all time and did not have a fun time with that.

So in fact, I just was like, all I want is experience.

I want to help people.

We want

Mm.

So I'm kind of just coming out of the crisis period of postpartum.

But this time around I knew I was gonna be busier.

I knew I was gonna have less time to do anything, so I came up with a mantra for myself, which I'm not really a mantra person, but it kind of worked.

I just told myself, "Don't suffer." Like [laughs] and I, if, if I had a free hand, I would've written it on my mirror, but every time I was holding the baby and then, like, my toddler was crying, I was like, "Don't suffer.

Don't take this moment on.

I'm not gonna, like, suffer through this hour.
