Allen Drury

Popular culture added another pressure point.

Alan Drury's 1959 bestseller, Advice and Consent, included Brigham Anderson, a fictional Utah senator whose career collapses after political enemies uncover a homosexual relationship from his military years.

J. Willard Marriott wrote that the film adaptation could do, quote, "...inestimable damage to the image of our people," end quote.

And we know how important the image of our people is.

Yeah, I mean, I think we're all kind of like laboring in his footsteps.

But, you know, Advise and Consent by Alan Drury.

I'm blanking, I'm sorry, on the book by Henry Adams about Washington politics.

So I think, as I say, I think it's a genre that's sadly underrepresented because Washington, A, has a long history in terms of black America, and B, for a long time, you know, well, it still is, but black people are no longer the majority, but we're still as significant.

Mm-hmm

... based on a book by Allen Drury.

I read, I read political books.

I read books about great leaders.
