I might lean on you for, uh, some notes on how to be a pensioner.

I'm in New Delhi, having just returned from a, a fabulous trip to the wilds of Africa, some gorilla viewing and lots of wonderful wildlife there.

And I think this is very important, what I'm saying, to bring the right people for the right job.

Next on Stumped is Smriti Mandana, the greatest batter the women's game has ever seen because the records just keep on coming.

She was only on Stumped speaking to us a few weeks ago and she's now the all-time leading run scorer in women's international cricket after her 124 from 64 balls in India's win over Hong Kong in the Asia Cup.

He was a Bohemian-born composer, ethnomusicologist, and conductor who was the musical director of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

He is also celebrated for composing the iconic long-running signature theme tune for All India Radio back in 1936.

Helen O'Connell passed away in 1993 at the age of 73 from cancer.

Helen was the big band singer of the 1940s and achieved huge fame fronting the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra.

Every year, this national celebration begins on the eve of the Independence Day when the honorable President of India addresses the nation.

Akashvani broadcast this special event through its huge network of regional stations, and this year, too, there was no any exception.

The President of India, Srimati Droupadi Murmu, addressed the nation on 14th August, which was broadcast at 13:30 UTC, and I could receive the following Akashvani stations with the President's speech.

Akashvani Dibrugarh on 567 kilohertz.

Akashvani Chishula on 594 kilohertz.

Akashvani Kohima on six three nine kilohertz.

Akashvani Kolkata on six five seven kilohertz.

Akashvani Itanagar on six seven five kilohertz.

Yes, they actually won it, so they're happy.

[laughs] And I'm Sunil Gupta for Akashvani in a very sodden New Delhi.

It's been raining, raining, raining, and it's been raining cricket.

As always in India, there's cricket.

It's a very short window period.

And then how do we extend that beyond the ETPL? You know, can we do camps in Europe? Can we bring them to South Africa and to India? 'Cause we've got a strong, the Rotterdam Dockers, we've got a strong India, South Africa, and obviously European sort of link in our setup, in our franchise.

Next on Stumped, the England test captain Joe Root says he is, and I quote, "Hacked off and disappointed at the incident involving fast bowler Brydon Carse at a Derby nightclub that saw him briefly arrested and subsequently de-arrested." Following the incident, Carse has been dropped from the squad for this week's second test against Pakistan, and Root is clearly agitated that off-the-field problems have yet again been dominating the headlines.

It's a shame, because all India radio, when you were growing up, was massive.

I used to work on that, and that was the broadcasting medium throughout India.

It's now, actually, it's just been discarded, really.

[singing] Actress Zeenat Aman lip syncs and sways among a group of young people sat around dancing while smoking marijuana from a clay pipe.

It was banned by the station All India Radio because of its controversial lyrics, which mean take a puff.

The song gained cult status and highlighted her ability to cross genres at a time when music coming out of India was also changing.

In 1984, she was asked what she thought of the tracks coming out of the country.

It'll end up as the cover of the book, but it starts out as a last-minute idea on one of those cake days.

I got up, couldn't even think of anything.

Got to the train station, there was a train strike, no train, and then all of a sudden, train came, and it was filled with coal.

Then I stare at it and I say, "Yeah, I can make a train.
