All-America Football Conference

In 1980? 1980 with the 49ers.

I thought you were going to say some AAFC stat or something.

Taylor Witt, who does a lot of Chiefs coverage and follows me.

I didn't even notice this.

And the NFL prevailed.

By 1950, the AAFC was out of business and the NFL brought in the best teams in the AAFC, Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers.

So that added two more successful franchises to the roster of NFL teams.

So as you head into the 1950s, You're beginning to see a league that is growing with stable franchises, with history and quality.

And so the opening game of the 1950 season, it was the first game after the two leagues had merged and the champions of Both leagues in 1949 played each other.

Champions of the AAFC were the Cleveland Browns.

Champions of the NFL were the Philadelphia Eagles.

And they met on the field in the opening game.

Today in 1950, the Cleveland Browns played their very first NFL regular season game and made quite an entrance, beating the defending NFL champion Philadelphia Eagles 35-10.

The Browns had just joined the NFL after winning all four championships of the All-American Football Conference.

And Cleveland Brown has not, I don't even know if they've not been to a Super Bowl since they joined the NFL, much less win one.

Gosh, being from Cincinnati, what do you say about the Cleveland Browns? And today is National Guacamole Day.

Los Angeles Dodgers nothing, Cleveland nothing, end of the first period.

Then he returned to his native Massillon, Ohio.

From there, he moved on to Ohio State, then to the Great Lakes Naval Training Station during World War II, and he has been head coach of the Cleveland team since 1946, when the club was organized as a member of the now-defunct All-America Conference.

In that time, the Browns have been out of a title game just once.

During their four years in the All-America Conference, they won the conference championship on all four occasions.

They entered the National Football League in 1950, and since then have been in the title game in all seasons except last year when they finished with a 5-7 record and finished fourth place in the Eastern Division.

That record, incidentally, marked the first time that a Paul Brown coached team lost more games than it won.

Ultimately, I changed my mind and decided to include the titles awarded from 1920 to 1932.

I am also including the Cleveland Browns for All-American Football Conference titles, won between 1946 and 1949.

Some may think those titles should not be included, but I disagree.

The Browns proved those titles were legitimate by reaching the NFL title game for the next six seasons, winning three of them.

One is when he was drafted by the Lions in the 48 draft.

However, he then signed with the Browns of the All-American Football Conference to back up Otto Graham, which was supposed to be his last season.

But then the AAFC commissioner, in an effort to increase the balance, took several players from the Browns, including Tittle, and from the New York Yankees, which was a football team at the time, and sent them to the Baltimore Colts to begin just to kind of like make this team.

And I was just thinking of how far we've come with, like, players' rights and, like, league rule.

His final years were when the AFL were formed.

But he started his career with the old Baltimore Colts, who are the All-American Football Conference, for crying out

loud.
