I think it was the 35 years of reading that I had done prior to attempting this novel.

Uh, you know, uh, as a reader growing up in small town India, I was drawn to the stories of, uh, you know, of, by mystery authors, by thriller writers, Agatha Christie, Alistair MacLean, Desmond Bagley, Irving Wallace.

Uh, you name them, I read all of them.

Uh, and I suppose, you know, in all the mysteries that I read, I was able to discover the murderer before Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple did, and that I think is the moment when you transition into thinking like a writer because you are going below the scaffolding, isn't it?

What a great thing to have done.

'Cause, yeah, I mean, m- my folks, they read kind of thrillers, Tom Clancy, a bit of Alistair MacLean, you know, that kind of thing.
