Alison Redford

He had a very strong mandate.

But, you know, ask Alison Redford, ask Ed Stelmack.

There's been many leaders who survived, voted the members, but then circumstances continue to undermine them.

Their support erodes in caucus and then they're eventually pushed out.

I remember it.

Um, they were-- Alison Redford had spent a lot of money making this kind of nice Area, executive area let's call it.

sides in terms of talking about Alberta oil and whether or not to put tariffs on it.

You've got Jason Kenney, you've got Naheed Nenshi, you've got Alison Redford, you've got Doug Ford.

all saying that it should be on the table.

And you've got Danielle Smith and you've got Scott Moe saying no.

And I think that's, I think both those things explain a fair bit of what's going on here.

Another complicating factor, Tyler, is that we've got two former conservative premiers, Alison Redford, but perhaps even more notably, Jason Kenney, saying oil actually shouldn't be taken off the table as a weapon should this escalate further.

It needs to be telegraphed that if he does something really reckless in further escalating this in ways that are potentially existentially damaging to the Canadian economy, that we do have stronger ways of defending ourselves, such as a prospective export tax on some of our critical exports to the United States on which they rely.

How is that division problematic for the referendum campaign for either side?

So we'll see.

And now we've got former Premier Jason Kenney, along with former Premier of Alberta Alison Redford, and even a former NDP Premier also saying or seeming to say that yes, Albertans should take the hit, Albertans should, you know, we should restrict our oil to the US or at least charge them higher prices.

So clearly, they are on the other side of Premier Daniel Smith on this issue.

And this would also affect by the way, if they were if Alberta was to follow the advice of Jason Kenney, Alison Redford.

Sorry, I might have said Reynolds before Alison Redford.

And even the NDP leader, Nenshi, is Joining in with Jason Kenney, proposing and suggesting things which would be very harmful to not just to Alberta's economy, but to the Canadian economy.

So we'll see how that will work out.

Clearly, oil and gas has to be on the table.

Alison Redford was a progressive conservative premier more than a decade ago.

If we're going to have a, a dollar for dollar consequence to the, the trade discussion or war or, uh, or dialogue that's going to go on, that has to be part of it.

And I think-

I mentioned that, is that we saw two very similar eras in Alberta, both when Premier Ed Stelmack and Premier Alison Redford were having problems with the party and with the provincial public service that had ballooned to the point that it was drawing huge amounts of taxpayer money in.

There were things like private jets, the Sky Palace, and And so on and so forth.

And now here you had the cherry on top of an of an increased max salary for deputy ministers and the deputy minister to the to the premier.
