Aliens: Colonial Marines

I'll say Aliens is my favorite, just in terms of something I can put on and still feel kind of really absorbed by it.

Whereas Aliens has kind of, I think because Aliens kind of spins out into so much other pop culture and is so like, I was going to say memeable, but you know what I mean? There's so many lines, there's so many quotes in that, so much about the Marines in it, you know, leading to other kind of sci-fi franchises.

that it's kind of been like broken up into all these little pieces that scatter across like everything that's come after it whereas alien still feels like a very complete and like entirely of its own almost yeah so yeah

I'm totally with you on that.

I mean, I suspect many of us through our careers have had that job that we didn't particularly enjoy, that maybe we felt like we weren't in control, like we thought we were meant to be.

And that's definitely David Fincher on Alien 3.

I'm just like, you know what? We'll talk about Colonial Marines later on, I'm sure.

But one of the things that came out of my uh interviews around colonial reams was this kind of sentiment from people involved in it that like just getting it done and out there was a success and it kind of feels like alien 3 was a bit like that as well just getting that finished with like all the rewrites all the different directions the script went in obviously david finch is getting you know he's young he hasn't done a motion picture before he's getting a lot of like direction from other people in the production side of things Sigourney Weaver I'm not sure really wants to be there a lot of the time well she agreed to do it if they killed her right which they did but

So I wanted to it to have a place in the book.

And I think, you know, we've got aliens, colonial Marines as well.

I didn't want this just to be the games that everyone celebrates.

Um, I really want, I wanted to show people that, you know, for every alien isolation, there's a colonial Marines and there are real people to work behind this.

They're working really hard on this stuff and sometimes they get it wrong.

Um, and Dante's Inferno is a really good example of that.

With Alien Colonial Marines specifically, as I was reading the way that you wrote these interviews out, it seemed like the development process of that game itself was like a horror show on its own, you know? And that is probably what led to it not being so good, but it's like this alien horror game, but also the development was mirroring that in a bad way.

Yeah, I mean, I think that game, that chapter kind of wrote itself.

That's how we saw that infamous alien Colonial Marines demo, Dave and I, when Randy Pitchford came in and shook our hands and lied to us.

And Dave would never forgive him.

So funny.

One, I think the horror first-person shooter because I just don't think there's a ton of these at this point in time.

Even now, like Alien? Funny enough, the team that worked on the expansions, the DLCs, Project Mandate? What was it? Attraction Point Perseus Mandate? That's the team that worked on Colonial Marines.

Are they talking about playing the games, like me and you streaming them? Or, yeah, a TV show.

A TV show would be good, actually, but not if it was handled by the same people who did Alien Earth, because that's fucking awful.
