Fields says practicing medicine here in Kentucky has changed since the state's near total abortion ban went into effect almost four years ago.

We had a case not that long ago where the patient had been seen.

She had a really horrible pregnancy history of, of multiple pre-viable deliveries and losses and pre-term labor, and ultimately came in laboring, but she still had a, a pregnancy with a heartbeat, and she was begging us to, to do something to, to please make this just be done.

She knew that at 17 weeks, a pregnancy could not survive on the outside, and she was just stuck waiting, and ultimately we were stuck waiting until she got infected and, and was sick enough to intervene and, and do something.

Why have you chosen to stay?

I think for every day that I have a hard scenario of one of these situations that I wanna just, like, bang my fist against the wall.

You know, I have moments on the other side where I have those patients that are so appreciative of the fact that they have a reproductive healthcare provider in this state, in a rural area, that's gonna listen to them without shame, without guilt, and validate their experiences.

So that's why I stay, because they, they deserve access to good care.

So tell me a little bit then about doula doc and like how that came to be and kind of how you're marrying like your doula side with like being an OBGYN, a trained physician, like tell me about that experience.

Yeah.

So I work in a rural area and it really came about by seeing some of these gaps that a They travel a long distance.

So their appointments are even more important because they have to travel an hour just for this 15 minute visit.

And they don't have as many options about who they can see and where they can go to deliver.

And so I was, I was like feeling that frustration of like seeing my patients wanting more and trying to figure out how I could do that.

And I also really like education and trying to make enough time for that and visits to talk about everything that's going on in your body and the changes and what's normal and And there's just never enough time.

Why don't you kind of talk a little bit about the journey of, you know, building these showrooms and kind of streamlining these products and templates that set my department up for success.

Yeah, so first, I agree.

I think we were way ahead of our time.

We had so many ideas.

We knew exactly where we needed to be to be successful.

Just with previous experiences, yours in the building industry and mine in sales, we knew what would work.

But having the people involved in seats and having that roadmap was really where we had to start.

Talk a little bit about the design process and kind of how that's evolved over time because that's a big part of your department too.
