Alice Tully Hall

My guest today is Zuul Bailey.

he is a grammy award-winning internationally renowned cellist performing as a soloist a recitalist and an artistic director he's been featured with symphony orchestras worldwide including los angeles chicago san francisco israel and cape town symphonies He's performed at Disney Hall, the Kennedy Center, the United Nations, Alice Tully Hall, the 92nd Street Y, and Carnegie Hall, to name just a few.

His international appearances include notable performances with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra.

as well as concerts in Ukraine, Korea, Australia, and many other places.

But, you know, people that were very, very close to him, he's an in-law, technically, of my father's, um, those are people that are very near and dear to my heart.

So for example, his favorite sister-in-law, my Aunt Rita, was the person that I walked down the streets of Manhattan from Ladder 35 to, uh, Lincoln Center to Alice Tully Hall, where he was remembered in December of 2001.

Once they obviously could not find him, he was declared to have passed.

And so that's the day that I think of.

I'll tell you what she actually planned.

For her memorial, it was held at Alice Tully Hall on July 9, 2012, and she officially called it a gathering for Nora.

It was an invitation-only affair with 800 guests attending.

I don't think I know 800 people.

He's a member of the Main Street Chamber Players, the Davenport Chamber Players, The Cirrus Ensemble and the Color of Music Festival.

Ken's career as a soloist and a chamber player spans illustrious venues, including the Washington Performing Arts Club, the German Embassy in Washington DC, the Kennedy Center's Terrace Theater, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Library of Congress, Alice Tully Hall in New York City, and Carnegie Hall with the Color of Music Festival Chamber Players.

He has performed all over the world, collaborating with ensembles and orchestras in addition to doing solo performances.

He maintains a large private studio in Fairfax, Virginia, and his students have secured acceptances at prestigious music schools, including Peabody and Oberlin Conservatories, Cleveland Institute of Music, Indiana University, and many, many others.

Additionally, we are increasing partnerships with channels in New York City, in addition to works in process at the Guggenheim, which we've had a wonderful partnership, and the Joyce Theater, with whom we work to bring very exceptional modern dance to our stages.

We've just inked a deal with Lincoln Center to be one of their think tanks when they will be able to send up people that are coming into Alice Tully Hall who need to figure out their lights and sound and etc., looking more forward to being able to host weddings behind the Red Barn, open that space up, and just deepen our roots in the community and our responsiveness to what the community needs.

For example, with our idea with the music school, we've started that process with a grant from the Slutsky Foundation in order to find out what the community wants, not to tell them what they need.

And that I think is the hallmark of Catskill Mountain Foundation that a lot of people miss.

She also taught at the Ailey School, the 92nd Street Y, and the American Music and Dramatic Academy.

Adding to her successful theatrical and teaching pursuits, she co-founded TWP Sky Dancer Productions in New York City, producing three seasons of original works by, for, and about women, served as staff choreographer at Capitol Playhouse in Olympia, Washington, where she choreographed, taught dance classes, and sold advertisements for the program, and finally worked as a house manager at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall and Avery Fisher Hall, giving her a deep understanding about how theater organizations work from the inside out.

What changed everything for her was finding Alexander Technique.

Alexander Technique taught her to do less, work with how she's designed, and free her movement, her breath, her voice, and her joy in the work.
