Alice Hamilton

Um, I have one last one for me, but, and I will be brief because I already mentioned it, which is, um, American poison by Daniel Stein.

Uh, and I already mentioned this about, uh, uh, Alice Hamilton and, uh, discovering the perils of Tetra.

Um, since I already talked about it, I'll just say it's a great book.

Uh, like I think everyone should read it.

So she was inspired by settlement houses in London on a European tour when she was young, came back, started one in the 19th Ward in Chicago called Hull House.

It was then staffed mostly with, uh, women academics, and one of whom, ironically, was Alice Hamilton, who figured out what lead did in the community and fought a huge battle with General Motors over tetraethyllead, which was the great lead poisoning of America.

Hmm.

Anyway, they were spectacular women in... and almost all women in, in the settlement house.
