But it's sort of the origins and evolution of fragrance, so that's one sort of small chapter at the beginning.

And then I go into kind of how we smell.

Like h- how, that's almost as fascinating as the history of fragrance.

Like, how we go from something very tangible, and literal, and fact-based, like a smell, to something completely wild, and based purely on our own, um, physiology, and our own memories, and our own nostalgia, and our own culture, and all the things that we've picked up along the way, our own humanhood.

I loved the smell of things, and not necessarily perfumes right at the beginning.

It was more just the delicious smells of my grandparents' garden in France and the smell of the hot stones on the gravel.

And, um, and my dad, uh, when my sister and I were very small, my dad used to take us mushroom picking, actually for years and years, and it was towards sort of early September to end of October.

And every weekend we'd get up at, like, 5:00 in the morning, go to sort of the woodlands, I'd say near London, but if I tell you, I mean, I'd have to kill you.
