Alex Kendrick

A lot to get to.

On the Focus Story, filmmaker Alex Kendrick gearing up for a fascinating theatrical expedition, and he has a message for Christians.

Yeah, this is a powerful one.

He talks about flywheel, but then he really kind of gets into what we need to do as believers and really just clinging to the Bible.

So first and foremost need to be praying for that kid because they, He's been in this situation and hopefully God can restore that life from this terrible apparent upbringing that he's had so far.

So just continued prayers there.

All right, we're going to go to the focus story now and filmmaker Alex Kendrick is gearing up for a new release here.

So tell me about the story.

And, um, so this- this whole theme of Lordship throughout Flywheel is something I hope people resonate with.

[upbeat music] It is so good to welcome back my guest today, film director, producer, actor, and pastor, Alex Kendrick.

He and his brother, Steven, have a new movie being released in just a few weeks.

It's a Brazilian faith-based drama film and a reimagined remake of their 2003 debut feature film, Flywheel: Ignition of the Soul.

Yeah.

And they're gonna have a surprise there, too.

Film writer, producer, and director Alex Kendrick is with us discussing his latest movie and the Bible study that corresponds with it that will be sure to encourage and challenge you.

Alex, when people are watching Flywheel for the first time perhaps, what are you hoping that they will wrestle with inside of their own heart?

Well, and, and really having a remake of Flywheel, it's gonna be very, very unique.

Now, for those that, that may not be as well-versed, if you will, in the, the Kendrick, um, canon, if you will, on the, uh, the stories of the Kenic- uh, the Kendrick brothers, Facing the Giants was not your first film.

That was not your first rodeo for you and Alex.

That's right.

And we want to shout out those who have done so already right now.

Thank you to Chaotic Monkey, Alex Kendrick, Spartan Shatter, Kyle Stewart, Diente Hombre, iRvingTV, AscendingFromTheAshes, BornAnew, TheIrix, TheIrix, TheIrishPhoenix, Rodan, Nerva, Tony, Buck and Ouija, The Green Plumber, Dustin Mondray, Corey Hanks, Preyanchu, and the OG Halo podcaster, Dust Storm.

Guys, thank you for listening to the episode.

I would love to hear what you have to think about Activision and Halo, where that's going, what you think about Xbox and their moves.

We've been told by people, especially in the faith-based space for filmmakers, that it was an inspirational film for them to do things like, oh, I don't know, Facing the Giants.

That was from Alex Kendrick.

He really enjoyed our film.

And he and his brother said, if they can do it for no money, we can do it for no money, too.

So it really, it's, it, I think the takeaway for me anyways with the scale is, like, don't limit yourself to what others say is possible, you know? [laughs] Like, ask what God thinks is possible, because, I mean, He really can do more than you imagined and He, and you ask, and we experienced that for sure in practical ways.

I had an interesting conversation with Alex Kendrick, and we were talking about the hand of God's favor.

Mm-hmm.

That there's so much you can do, but when God puts His hand on it and He puts His favor on it, something happens that goes beyond what you can think or imagine or say, "Well, I didn't do that.

So we, we, um, we've just been following that with our, our pursuits with our projects.

And, um, you know, in life in general that's something that I'm, I'm trying to do more of, is find where, where is God, God's hand working and let's partner with Him there.

Daniel, why is, uh, Alex Kendrick 100% right? It's better to have the hand of God's favor than $10 million.

Well, it's like, um, kind of reminds me of better is one day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere, you know? Like, I'd rather be in the house of God worshiping than in the halls of the wicked.

I get so excited about people's musical talents and people's artistry, how they can create things.

And we all have different kinds of gifts that in the movie making, we just had Alex Kendrick on the show a couple episodes ago.

So amazed at his gift of writing, finding out he wrote.

He wrote all of those movies.
