Amazing that the POTUS, President of the United States, got to the Vaccine Research Center and the NIH before me and Azar, that's Alex Azar, head of HHS at the time, and actually waited in the holding room for me.

Graham, there's Barney Graham again, and Kasmita Kober made presentation on second floor.

And then the president of the United States invited me and Azar to return to the White House with him on Marine One.

So Fauci says, we got this gene therapy guy.

President's coming to our house, basically.

I don't know if I could have fought better.

Very disappointed, obviously, in the Secretary of Health, Azar, in allowing that to happen.

Hopefully, when we have the next pandemic, we will have a much more appropriate because I will argue Tony's instincts in public health policy are actually not right.

If you go through a lot of the public health policy recommendations that he made, they're just wrong.

I don't know if I could have done something to be more effective in maintaining our position.

It didn't help me after Fauci was making a big move to have that at the first conference.

Azar, who was the Secretary of Health, would assign me back in Atlanta for the follow-up press conferences and put my deputy in there and shook it.

So there was clearly a huge effort to facilitate Fauci's ability to be the spokesman, which I think was unfortunately a big mistake for the nation.

Who was supposed to, who was supposed to move this into the Mets folder?

It would've been Alex Azar was here, I believe.

Oh, who the hell is that?

This is a military program.

When it was announced by Health and Human Services, Alex Azar and the Department of Defense, that's who entered into this, ushered us into the vaccine era.

The military.

Emergency use authorization is a mechanism to get rapid new technology into the military.
