I'm Rosanna Deerchild.

For over two decades, Alethea Arnaquq-Baril has been creating stories about the North from the North.

Now the co-creator of North of North is helping to create a production studio in Iqaluit built by Inuit for Inuit.

It's like a physical symbol of our audacity, [laughs] the nerve we have, um, and the expati- expectation we have to have the resources to create what we wanna create.

The sound of a Ski-Doo, the cracking of ice, the vaporous exhale of a bundled-up traveler.

These are the kinds of sights and sounds that can't be reproduced in a studio or anywhere with above zero temperatures, and it's one of the many reasons that CBC's hit series North of North needed to be shot in Iqaluit.

Alethea Arnaquq-Baril is a co-creator of the show, now in its second season.

Since the beginning, her team insisted that the series be produced in the Arctic, and it paid off for the show, but also more broadly when it comes to economic development in the North.
