The reason it took us so long to discover Aldebaran's variability in brightness is because, unlike Betelgeuse, which is periodic and it happens every 400 days, Aldebaran's change in brightness is what we call irregular.

There's no established period.

It will brighten slightly and then go back down to its normal brightness and then have a long period of time where it doesn't get bright at all.

so Niaruna's fire magic is faster and predictable, where Kamba Guta's is smaller and doesn't come back for a long time, which is why she needs to call in the dingoes for help so she can recharge her fire magic.

The information encoded in the story encodes the variability of both stars, and it records the periodic variability of Betelgeuse and the irregular variability of Aldebaran.
