Lot, the, the, the prior record we went to London and worked with Flood and Alan Moulder, really, you know-

let's talk about loveless a little bit maybe even a little bit more than a little bit because it's important so work on what would become loveless begins in 1989 recording sprawls roughly two years a bunch of different studios engineers come and go sessions are abandoned famously of course equipment rooms become part of the compositional process.

Alan Mulder is among the engineers eventually able to work inside of Kevin Shields.

Let's say obsessive methods.

So he becomes kind of a main piece of it.

But because we felt like we were trying to have to reestablish the band, we kind of decided let's just kind of have, you know, a similar sound to Raise, but make it, you know, kind of bigger and more, you know, more precise.

And that's when we brought in Alan Moulder.

Well, he had produced the, um, the previous EP.

And, uh, I met him at the bar of a show somewhere in London, and he just shouted across the bar, "Oh, are you the bloke from Swervedriver?" And I said, "Yeah.

Who are you?" And he said, "I'm Alan Moulder." I said, "Oh, right." And he said, "We should work together sometime." And it's like, "Yeah, yeah." [laughs] It was quite, quite a good way to sort of meet him really, you know.

And so yeah, he d- he did that next record.

And then by the, by the point of the third album, I think we wanted to cut back on the...

And really this is the chapter for me, at least, where we really get to hear a lot from- ...

Neil.

Um, it's just that those are more guitar heavy albums, so they seem less obviously Neil.

Um, so when we're tracking The Blue Hour chapter, we get to see how does this work in practice.

How are they planning from the beginning for Neil to essentially lead this process? Um, and when they get to Alan Moulder, one of the most interesting things about interviewing Alan Moulder was that he, he would barely even accept that he was the producer on the album at all.

You know, he was constantly pointing to Neil and going, "No, Neil did that.
