Al-Shifa Hospital

I think for me, the pinnacle of my experiences really were last year.

So for my third mission, um, I was mostly based up in Gaza City, so at, at Shifa Hospital, which was regarded as the main tertiary hospital n- across all of Palestine actually.

Um, and I went in J- middle of June 2025.

Up until that point, when the ceasefire was broken by Israel, um, the entire population had had an enforced starvation for four months.

I saw it when I was there in December of 2024 and January '25.

Um, and each of those healthcare facilities have been continuously targeted ever since I've left those places.

And even when I was there, I mean, at Al Shifa Hospital last year, um, in front of our accommodation building, a car was driving up the road and a, a missile strike hit it, and the, um, the fir- the level one staircase and wall just got completely blown apart.

I mean, it just by, by luck, by sheer luck, I just was not walking down that road to get to the other building to the operating theater.

So I think that was quite hard.

On the first day, we stopped off at Al-Shifa Hospital.

If you don't see anything else, or if you're not moved by anything else, to see a picture of what they've done to Al-Shifa Hospital is that total destruction of the hospital.

There's just no room for that level of destruction, I think.

just after we'd left al-Shifa we heard that there'd been like a big bomb that had gone off very close to al-Shifa within like half a month actually and in fact the translator that I was with at the time her husband called when we were on our way back to say where are you because we've heard that there's been a big bomb that's gone off I think moments like that really bring you quite close to realising how dangerous it can always be for you to be around basically you just never know what's around the corner or what's going to happen.

Over 400 kidney patients have already died due to war-related conditions and ongoing restrictions since October 2023.

Among those killed was Ahmed al-Baytek Abu Osama, identified as a top commander from Hamas's Gaza City Brigade, part of the al-Qassam Brigades, who was struck in an overnight operation.

The operations, which occurred in areas including Deir al-Bala, Daraj al-Tuffah and Gaza City near Shifa Hospital, were based on intelligence from the Shin Bet and Military Intelligence Directorate.

A key focus of these recent efforts is disrupting Hamas's ability to rebuild and restore its military capabilities, with particular attention paid to damaging their weapons acquisition.

Reporter Ahmed Kahil filmed the bombing of the home in the beach refugee camp on Wednesday.

The day before, Israel issued a series of forced displacement orders across Gaza, including in the beach camp, as well as in the Burej and Nusayrat refugee camps in central Gaza and near al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

Dropsites reporter Abdelkader Sabah spoke to a displaced mother of eight on Tuesday, who said she was inside her tent with her children when they suddenly learned their entire block near al-Shifa had been ordered to evacuate.
